That thing looks like a pain in the ass.

I have camped out with no tent several times at -20 F. I would not do that with a dog though. With a dog I have not camped below +10F, and that was in a tent.

I have camped in a tent and had 1.5 feet of snow on it that fell between dark and midnight.
