They are thinning. The local resistance to woodcutting pretty much did a 180 degree turnaround after the devastating fires we had up in this area about 4-5 years ago.
Where the locals were fighting tooth and nail to not allow any thinning, now they are pushing for it.
It's amazing how folks will change their minds when a few of their neighbor's houses get burned down.
