The Catamount trunnion is a proprietary unit and fits only the Catamount stock. The rear trunnion holes are almost right for a normal fixed stock trunnion but it will be placed out about 1mm too far to the rear... I had to grind the plastic on the stock to fit. Your trigger guard idea should work... may have to be creative.... You'll have to mock everything up to see if the grip will line up nice.
