An ancient update is better than no update at all. Just about everyone owns an 870, so any knowledge is good. I still own a couple 870's, but I now slightly prefer Mossberg 500s. Why? THere's a little less stuff that can go wrong with them.
As for you "necro-posting", I recently breathed life into a 2-year old thread on my drum forum - giving everyone an update on some snare drum. Yeah... the life of nerds!
