Romanian 8mm Surplus
After reading that most Mausers prefer heavy ball ammo, I was really surprised by the groups I shot with my 43 BCD German Mauser yesterday with the Romanian surplus. I got the same results with my M48 Yugo Mauser last fall.
Anyhow I shot this Mauser for the first time yesterday with 72 dated Romanian surplus, 55 Yugo surplus, 70's Yugo surplus, 39 dated Greek surplus and commercial Olympic brand ammo. Much to my surprise my best groups were with the Romanian. The Olympic did real well to. I had to quit after 60 rounds my shoulder was not real happy. |
What, no Turk ammo?

AIM still has Romanian listed but it has gone up considerably since i bought mine: http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/8mm.html Coles has new non-corrosive FNM for $5.95 a box which is very tempting. http://www.coledistributing.com/ I sure hope they import some more, the market is drying up. |
The last Romanian I got was from Sportsmans Guide and it was like $59 a crate. That was just a month ago. They're sold out now. Wish I had bought more since I'm going to run my 1919 on 8mm instead of 308 seeing how it's dried up too.

Of all my Mausers, the Romanian 8mm well only shoot well in an M48 and one of the 24/47's. The rest like the '70's and '80's Yugoslav. My VZ24 really likes the '44 Czech (go figure?). None of them will shoot the commercial Olympic very well. I think I'll sell what I have left of that.
